"Like a lot of things in life, Søren Solkær Starbird's career was serendipitous. The Danish literature graduate was working as a portrait photographer when his assistant started a band, The Raveonettes. He became their unofficial photographer, caught the attention of record label EMI and a career as a rock photographer was born".

For some investors, the recent sell-off in world
sharemarkets and worries about European debt issues have reopened a
few scars from 2008 and 2009, when the global financial crisis was

Contempo | Young Guns II
There was a highly charged energy in the gallery on Tuesday evening as three "young guns" of Australian art - Jeremy Kibel, Morten Lassen and Luke Cornish (E.L.K.) revealed fascinating information about their highly differing art making techniques and surfaces. Of course, the discussion took some amusing diversions!
The timing couldn't have been more perfect for this Contempo event as two of the artists were selected as finalists in the 2012 Archibald Prize - Kibel for his self-portrait and Cornish for his stensil painting of Father Bob Maguire (the first sencil-art finalist in the history of the Archibald Prize).
The discussion, led by Ralph Hobbs was the highly anticipated sequel to the "Young Gun" event held two years ago. As sponsor of Contempo at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Art Equity co-hosts regular artist talks and workshops. If you are interested in joining these events, please email us or contact Contempo.

Self-managed super funds CAN invest in Art
Last year the Cooper review recommended to the government that self-managed super funds should be banned from holding art and other collectibles. Both the ALP and Coalition rejected these recommendations.
The government, however, did commit to putting in place some additional super laws that SMSFs would need to follow when the trustees decided to hold such investments.
This month the government released a draft version of the regulations it intends to put in place for July 1. Overall these proposed regulations are pretty good.
