*source: aasd.com.auJustin Tjungurrayi Corby is one of the youngest and most promising emerging Indigenous artists working today. Born in Papunya in 1982 and schooled in Kintore, Corby now lives and paints in the small Aboriginal community of Ikuntji (Haasts Bluff) about 230 kilometres west of Alice Springs. Justin is the son of the famous Papunya artist, Lindsay Tjungurrai Corby, and nephew of David Corby Tjapaltjarri, one of the early group of artists at Papunya Tula. Founded by Geoffrey Bardon in 1972, Papunya Tula Artists is regarded around the world as the birth of the contemporary Australian Aboriginal art movement.
Justin was given permission by his father who was custodian of many important Dreamings to paint his family’s stories and ensure the continuation of their artistic and cultural heritage. Whilst he was instructed in his family’s particular style of painting, Justin was intuitive in creating his own unique style with bold yet simply geometric forms and vibrant colours.
The four main Dreamings in Corby’s art are all played out in ancestral sites near Jtunti (meaning a rock shelf or cave in Pintupi language) north-west of Papunya.
A major waterhole resides at Jtunti and people come here to dig to find fresh water. His inherited Dreamings include the Budgerigar Dreaming, Emu Dreaming, Travelling Snake Dreaming and Kangaroo Dreaming, all different in composition and colour but interconnected in terms of topography.
This outstanding collagraph is the first editioned work by Justin Corby. It is based on a painting by the artist which was exhibited alongside seven other Western Desert Artists at G’Day USA Australia Week in New York in January 2008. In the painting he depicts the story the Budgerigar Dreaming with the circular waterhole in the centre of the composition surrounded by the sources of water. Budgerigars are common to this area and according to Justin Corby “fly from all over and cover this land”.

Laura Matthews was born in South Wales in 1964. She studied at the prestigious Slade School of Fine Art, London University as an undergraduate and post-graduate student. During this 6 year period her work matured under the tutelage of the greatest modern British painters, amongst them William Coldstream and Euan Uglow. A regular visitor at the Slade, Lucien Freud offered criticism and support and Laura subsequently received numerous accolades, awards and travelling scholarships under this exceptional guidance. A twice recipient of the International Elizabeth Greenshield Bursary, Laura left her homeland in 2002 to immigrate with her family to Australia.
Upon arriving here Laura has continued to receive high acclaim. She has been selected twice in 2003 and 2004 as a finalist in the Portia Geech Memorial Award for Portraiture held at the SH Ervin Gallery; a finalist in the prestigious Fleurieu Peninsula Award for landscape in 2004- one of 56 finalists from 520 entries, and in the same year a finalist in the Paddington Art Prize.
Laura’s work is represented in private collections in Europe, the U.S.A and Australia. She is included in the extensive collections of Royal Caribbean Cruise Liners, many of which were specially commissioned. Her work is also found in the Slade Collection and on the cover of The Oxford Book Of Twentieth Century English Verse chosen by Philip Larkin (Oxford University Press).
"Matthews applies layers of paint, building up the autonomous marks to reflect real space and light, but rather than representing the landscape as ‘a reality’ it becomes more of a memory of a place, a hint or glimpse. " Donna Brett, Art Gallery of New South Wales

Jasper Knight was born in Sydney in 1978. In 2002-2003 he completed a Master of arts (majoring in painting + drawing) at the College of Fine Arts, UNSW Sydney.
Over the past 2-3 years Jaspers reputation has grown to become one of the hottest young artists working in Australia today. He has been selected as an Archibald Finalist for the last four years running in 2005-6-7-8 and in 2005-6 as a finalist in The Wynne Prize, AGNSW Sydney. In 2006 he was also a finalist in the Redlands Westpac art prize; 2005 Freedman foundation travelling scholarship winner; 2005 The Brett Whiteley travelling scholarship, finalist.
In 2007 Jasper lived and worked in London preparing for his solo exhibition in June 2007. Titled, The Thames Series, the image upon which this exclusive collagraph is based was the key image for his London series. His 2006 Paris exhibition was highly acclaimed and included urban imagery and scenes of the river Seine, in the artists characteristic "pop art" style.
In his own words, "Over the last two years my work has questioned the boundary not only between high art and the amateur or postcard photo, but also between sculpture and painting. My works are constructed of plywood, perspex, cardboard boxes, old signs and found plastic tiles and sheets. The surfaces and materials have their own history, of trade, industrial sites and the local hardware. These histories often bear a direct relation to the content of the work. For example, my series based on ports was constructed, in part, fro the detritus of the ports. Spatially, the works are varied: they privilege the surface, but at the same time play upon traditional perspective.
My work has always straddled painting and the constructed object. In the past, my materials have added to the narrative content, or sometimes to the context, of the depicted scenes. My recent work has explored this relationship between material and subject, between constructed object and painted surface, in a more abstract way. The subject matter, from wharves to cars, from chairs to landscape, helps explore these binary concerns and is treated in a highly architectural and linear way".
